- talk about why John Carey needs to spend more time exploring the reasons for the distrust held by the "intellectuals" for the "masses";
- try to find out titles of books read at Hazlitt's;
- the vein of wholesomeness in Chesterton vs. decay in Conrad (and how that changes in The Man Who Knew Too Much;
- hypocrisy vs. humbug;
- the modernist London vs. the Edwardian London vs. the mythopoetic suburb vs. the Graham Greene/TSE suburb;
- get that history of the TLS.
