"Then why don't you eat something?" she asked.
"It's no use," said the Tiger sadly. "I've tried that, but I always get hungry again."

Tonight's dinner

...was the last of the fresh lima beans, stewed with sage and garlic, croutons, and little bowls of eggplant with red pepper sauce. Then, unfortunately, I ate a very nasty candy. It was one of the few remaining from the stash I brought back from Italy, a lovely little toffeeish tablet wrapped in white paper. It claims to be rhubarb flavored, which is in fact something that makes me wonder why I bought it, because a rhubarb caramel does not sound like a terribly good idea even on the face of it. But it is much, much worse in practice, although it did not actually taste particularly like rhubarb. Instead it tasted like concentrated ground up grapefruit peel that had been stomped on with a dirty boot. Not so good.
