Plain old cream of tomato soup tonight, with adorable little teeny tiny ravioli floating therein. Leftover soup will get to hang out with grilled cheese, if I know me (and I do). I look forward to the fantasy of a diner meal that will be. I should bake a pie to go with it! (But I won't.) And just to make my tomato soup experiences all the more ideal, it has decided to be cold and rainy tonight. That works out nicely. I'll appreciate my soup and ravioli and rain.
Today I have also been appreciating our lovely soda siphon. It has been resting neglected and half full in our refrigerator for at least a couple of weeks. Today I had a craving for elderflower syrup and soda, but was sure that by now all the carbonaterific virtue would have gone out of the siphon contents. But no! It was perfectly fizzy in every way (how many ways does it take, I now wonder). It was all very exciting. Thanks, Mark!

We were camping this weekend, and 2 campmates made grilled cheese. For 2 hours Saturday and 2 hours Sunday. I can't even begin to count how many people they fed.
Posted by at October 17, 2003 08:14 AMI know you've mentioned that soda siphon before, but I can't seem to track it down in your archives (I may be chronically search-impaired). It sounds like just the thing for my thirsty and carbonation-happy mate. What kind is it that is so patient and reliable after weeks in the fridge?
Posted by Anna Galloway Highsmith at October 17, 2003 11:47 AMI'm curious too. Are we talking the kind of contraption you might have seen in a Marx Brothers film? If so, bonus points.
Posted by Robert at October 18, 2003 12:11 AMIt's this one. It is indeed highly Marx-Brothersesque. A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants.
Posted by redfox at October 18, 2003 11:20 AMDear Foxface,
When I put the milk in my cream of tomato soup it curdles a wee bit, presumably cause the tomato is a highly acidic creature. Does yours do that too?
Hm, no, it doesn't, but with my recipe the tomato mixture has cooled a fair bit by the time I stir the milk in. That might make a difference. Or, I dunno, your milk might be kinda old, even if it is not actually sour.
