"Then why don't you eat something?" she asked.
"It's no use," said the Tiger sadly. "I've tried that, but I always get hungry again."

Little to report

As is so often the case when I am in the throes of academic work, the domestic sphere has been slipping. The apartment, kitchen, and refrigerator are in a rather alarming state, and Annie's macaroni and cheese from a box has been taking an increasingly prominent role in our diet. Cleaning and grading are the order of the day today, and when those are done, perhaps I will be able to treat us to something nice to eat.

The scant cooking news in the meantime: Last weekend, we went to the Georgetown Dean and Deluca, and replenished my stock of elderflower syrup. Since then, the main kitchen event has been the arrival of a spiffy Le Crueset buffet casserole, obtained on super-sale, in which I have made a dandy gratin of potatoes, leeks, and rutabega. I am becoming ever more devoted to Le Crueset products, which is unfortunate given their hefty price tags. But boy, are they super.
