Today I am all about the links. Yesterday we attended a truly colossal wedding, enormous in guest list, scope, and duration, and so today we are properly humbled, not least by the plentiful excellent vodka. So essays on potato salad and defunct British snack foods are going to have to wait for another day. In the meantime, you can enjoy the fruits of the Internet:
The New York Times has a pretty bland article on the recent Summer Fancy Food Show. I'm sure it's next to impossible to write anything interesting about wholesale shows, since they're all the same underneath, but the piece over at Fortune is marginally more satisfying, because it tells you about many more of the actual up-and-coming foods on display. Also it contains the intriguing but fundamentally unsuccessful analogy, "Mini-meringue cookies, with names like Miss Meringue and Merangos, appear to be the 'new' pasta sauce in the gourmet foods world, the same way that brown is the 'new black' in fashion." I think I needed to start reading that sentence equipped with a much firmer sense of how pasta sauce is like a little black dress, but it's too late now.
Health and happiness for the little ones reared on Ridge's Food. Horrible little Victorian children! I know the sister is merely holding on to her brother's crib, but damned if she doesn't look on first glance as if she's about to bean him with a golf club.
Feeding Candy (Fondant) to Honey Bees.
Action Egg Heroes. "Wacky Ham (Jackie Chan), Jel Ly (Jet Li), and Pow Yolk Fat (Chow Yun Fat), are crimefighters in an alternate world where the people look like eggs and fight like the Chinese kung fu masters we've all seen in action movies."
