"Then why don't you eat something?" she asked.
"It's no use," said the Tiger sadly. "I've tried that, but I always get hungry again."

Going through a phase

We have been very into salads lately. I seem to go through phases with salad -- I'll go for months not wanting to deal with washing the greens or having any particular craving for one, and then want huge salads of all sorts all the time. Since we've been having them so regularly lately, I've wanted to keep a few different salad dressings going, for variety's sake -- there's a sweetish one I made with olive oil, riesling vinegar, pesto from a jar, and salt and pepper; a spicy, citrusy one with rice wine vinegar, olive oil, wasabi, soy sauce, and sansho; and a mustard vinegrette that's good for spinach salad. Mm.

Off the topic of food but on the topic of interests that ebb and flow, I've been knitting again lately. Proctoring exams turns out to be an excellent activity to combine with knitting (grading, unfortunately, not so much). And thanks to the lovely Kim, I have realized that circular needles are where it's at. Alas, they (at least nice ones) are also expensive. And now I remember one reason why I never manage to get going on the kind of project with ribbing or precise gauges -- not only am I impatient, I never have the enormous assortment of needle sizes I would need to get it right. Now I am looking longingly at this interchangable needle system. Has anyone used it? Is it as tasty as it sounds?

I have heard only praise for the Denise system. I have branched away from scarves to . . . slippers!
