I am the Arnhold Faculty Fellow in Cognitive Approaches to Literature at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

My particular research areas are language and social cognition, particularly the pragmatics of irony and the ways that language is used to coordinate attention, and British Modernism, with a special interest in detective fiction of the period.
